EPA GRANT

GL-97544301-0

CONTROL OF RE-SUSPENSION OF CONTAMINATED SEDIMENT DURING DREDGING OPERATIONS

The Friends of the Detroit River (FDR) has just received a grant from the EPA Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO). With this grant, the FDR will provide for the design, fabrication, and evaluation of an innovative mobile dredging unit with the potential for reducing sediment re-suspension and offsite migration of contaminants during dredging. The objective of the project is to demonstrate a method to control sediment re-suspension during environmental dredging in an effort to protect and maintain the chemical, physical and biological  integrity of the water of the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem.
